Diagnosis: Embryonal carcinoma + yolk sac
tumor + syncytiotrophoblastic cells
Comments: The
embryonal carcinoma component shows a tubular arrangement (Figs. 1 and
2) and
the yolk sac is predominantly solid (Figs. 3, 4, and 5). Scattered
syncytiotrophoblastic
cells were present only in the yolk sac component. In some areas, the
cells of
the yolk sac tumor show intracellular vacuoles producing a honey comb
or
reticular appearance. Compare the distinct patterns of the nuclei. In
the
embryonal carcinoma the nuclei are large and vesicular, the nucleoli
are prominent
and the chromatin irregularly distributed frequently radiating from the
nucleoli
toward the nuclear membrane. |
