Diagnosis: Chronic glandular
cystitis of the usual and intestinal types with mucin extravasation. Comment: Chronic
glandular
cystitis is a frequent benign lesion of the urinary bladder. The
intestinal
type is less frequent and may be associated with mucin extravasation
(Young RH
et al. Florid cystitis glandularis of intestinal type with mucin
extravasation:
A mimic of adenocarcinoma, Am J Surg Pathol 20:1462-1468,1996).
Cystitis
glandularis may cause irritative symptoms, hematuria, and rarely
hydronephrosis. It is most common in the trigone and blader neck.
Although
usually a microscopic finding, cystitis glandularis is occasionally
visible grossly,
and in occasional cases, a polypoid mass suggests a neoplasm.
