Diagnosis: Cellular angiofibroma. Comments: The
histologic characteristics of this rare and benign tumor are: numerous
small, medium
and large vessels scattered in a fibrous stroma of variable cellularity
(Fig.
1); some vessels with hyalinized wall (Fig. 2); occasional
intravascular
thrombi sometimes recanalized (Fig. 3); scattered small aggregates of
adipocytes sometimes involving vessels (Fig. 4); and focal inflammatory
infiltrate
of lymphocytes, plasmocytes and mast cells. Fig. 5 shows four mast
cells (arrows).
A synonym of the tumor is angiofibroblastoma-like tumor in men. |
